Here are some frequently asked questions. If you don't find an answer to your question below then please don't hesitate to contact us.
What do i wear for a treatment?
Bowen therapy can be performed through light clothing i.e t-shirt weight fabric. Jeans are too bulky and thick so these wouldn't be suitable. You are welcome to bring along a pair of shorts or other light clothing to change in to. However if you are comfortable being treated in your underwear that is also absolutely fine. It is important that you feel comfortable so any questions just ask.
How Many sessions will i need?
This is very dependent on the type of problem(s) you have. I would normally recommend that you try to attend at least 2-3 sessions to feel the full benefits. Some people find relief after just one session however some problems that have been longstanding can take longer to address. Some people with chronic conditions use regular treatments to manage their symptoms. Many clients also carry on and have top up treatments as a kind of maintenance to help prevent problems recurring.
How Much does is cost?
Please refer to the treatment & prices page for details.
I Don't think i could lie on my front to be treated, are there any other options?
Yes that is not a problem. If your problem restricts you so that you are unable to lie on a massage couch Bowen can be performed seated.
Who is Bowen suitable for? Can children and babies be treated?
Bowen therapy is a non-invasive therapy this makes it suitable for anyone from babies to the elderly.
Can I mix Bowen with other treatments?
We advise that you should not have any other treatments i.e massage, acupuncture, chiropractic at least 5 days before and after you treatment as this can effect the efficacy of the Bowen.
How often can I have treatment?
Bowen treatments are generally spaced on average 5-7 days apart unless there has been a re-injury or a completely new problem that needs addressing. The reason for this gap between treatments is that Bowen work carries on effecting the body over a number of days so it is important to give the body chance to heal.
Does it have immediate results?
This again is dependent on the problem. Some people do find that they have immediate results but many others find that it takes a bit longer to start to see results. It is very common for some people to feel a bit achy following a treatment. This is just the body initiating a healing response and if you do have this kind of reaction it is important not to cease with the treatment. It is often a positive sign that the body is starting to initiate change.
are there any after effects?
Each individuals response is different however post - treatment reactions are not uncommon and can include tiredness, thirst, an increase in original symptoms, flu like symptoms, stiffness, headaches. These reactions tend to be caused by the body initiating a healing response and are nothing to be worried about, it is important to drink plenty of water, do little walks every half hour as advised in the aftercare sheet, and return for treatment.
